Environmental management plan
All organisations, including schools have direct impacts on the environment through their activities. Hebersham Public School (Hebersham Public School) for example:
- produces waste – food, paper, lazer printer cartridges and packaging
- consumed resources – paper, pencils, rubers and other materials students and teachers may use up in class
- energy used – electricity for lighting and running equipment, electricity for heating/cooling spaces and fuels (petrol or diesel) for transport.
Hebersham Public School also has indirect impacts on the environment, for example:
- When Hebersham Public School buys a particular product or service – office supplies, cleaning chemicals or courier services. Our school is indirectly responsible for impacts related to manufacturing the product or providing the service (such as possible air and water pollution).
- Hebersham Public School is also indirectly responsible for impacts related to its use of products (for example, littering).
What can we do?
Hebersham Public School can tackle these impacts through decisions it makes and influences it exerts:
- On its suppliers for example, purchasing recycled paper may not only reduce both the direct resource-consumption impacts of paper use but may also influence the supplier to produce more of the product, increasing demand for used paper and making collection more viable (IES 1997).
- Through the school community for example, we could offer advice about environmental impacts associated with various products and encourage the choice of more ‘environmentally friendly' options.
Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden
Hebersham Public School is running the Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden program at our school. Which is a program that has been running since 2010. That involves all Stage 2 students attend a 90 minute kitchen class and a 30 minute garden class once a week.

Continuums
The NSW continuum's describe how students progress in key learning areas (KLAs) across the curriculum. They are used to identify the behaviours that demonstrate how a student's skills and understandings develop in different aspects of each KLA. These aspects are regarded as critical to individual success.
