This is How We Do it in S1J, Working Together is the Best Way!

This semester in S1J we have been learning to work together to complete tasks and activities. We have discovered that teamwork helps us to get things done faster and also helps everyone learn as we all get to share our ideas and build on the ideas of others.

So far we've learnt that:

Teamwork builds our communication skills

When we work as a team we are able to practise speaking clearly and kindly to each other. We realise that we need to allow other people to speak and not interrupt them. Working as a team also helps us to develop our listening skills. These skills are important not only at school but also as part of our everyday life.

It teaches us to cooperate and negotiate

Sometimes we get upset when things don't go the way we want them to. However when we work as part of a team we have learnt to understand that sometimes we need to negotiate to get the task completed.

It helps us be creative

We are beginning to realise that working with others and allowing them to share their ideas helps us to think of ideas of our own. Working collaboratively in our classroom has showed us that everyone learns differently, and some people are better at things that we might not be so good at. Working together helps to build onto each other's ideas to create something better.

We learn to self-reflect

The most important part of teamwork is when we reflect about what we did well and what we might choose to do differently next time. This helps us to take responsibility for our own learning.
